Invest in a VPN
Accessing your usual social media whilst in China will be impossible on your mobile, so install a VPN before you leave for China to ensure you can still access everything you need.
Know your Timezones
There's only one official timezone in China, GMT +8 which is known as Beijing time. There are, in reality, several timezones spanning the country so in some provinces you may come across an "official" and a "local" time.
Learn the Lingo
Mandarin is the official language of China and it's a good idea to learn at least a few key phrases. Providing your own translator if you require one is considered polite.

Although Visa and Mastercard are accepted in certain places, China has it's own payment methods which it favours. Carrying some local currency is a must, as well as ensuring you can withdraw more on your cards in-country if required.
